James (Elephantine) Elliott (August 8, 1915 – March 22, 1981) was an American athletics coach, often considered to exist as one of a greatest ever. His accomplishment include producing 5 Olympic gold medal winners between 1956 and 1968.
Elliott, the college track runner of short & middle distances, graduated from either Villanova University in 1935 and returned to coach the track team inside 1949 until his death inside 1981. In this cycle, his teams won eight national collegial team titles, piece his jock won 82 NCAA crowns and placed 66 globe records. He produced the sum of Twenty-eight Olympic rival, 5 of whom won gold decoration: Ron Delany (1956, 1500m), Charles Jenkins (1956, 400m), Don Bragg (1960, pole vault), Paul Drayton (1964, 4x100m relay), and Larry James (1968, 4x400m relay). He was inducted into a Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1981.
